Cort G300 Pro Review – Is It Really That Good?

With all of the experience and manufacturing skills, Cort offers amazing boutique-inspired guitars for musicians who are serious about playing electric guitar. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, the Cort G Series offers amazing electric guitars combining modern touches with vintage looks. From sonic versatility to superb playability, the series features tons of advantages that make it a notable option for an electric guitar. 

Today I will review the flagship model of the G series, called Cort G300 Pro, which came out in 2021. As a boutique-style guitar with modern enhancements and vintage appeal, it is a truly impressive electric guitar with its feature-packed design, Basswood great looking body, smooth roasted maple neck, and Seymour Duncan pickups providing versatile and impressive sound. The guitar features a great value for the price offered.

Looking at runners, graph tech nut, stainless steel frets, stainless steel saddles, spoke nut truss rod adjustment… this guitar is just fully upgraded, you don’t need to replace to think to replace anything.

I have started playing guitar with a Cort and did not stop there, moving on to other models as I liked the quality, versatility, and playability of the instruments. Cort G300 Pro is one of the models I play regularly and is one of my favorite guitars.

 I find this guitar’s features, comfort, sonic versatility, and playability as well as its look remarkable. The only con I can find is that it comes without a case, but that is far from being a dealbreaker. The guitar deserves a 5 star out of 5 without second thoughts.

Cort

Cort Guitars from Cor-Tek corporation is a South Korean guitar manufacturing company located in Seoul. As one of the biggest guitar companies globally, Cort produces many different models under their name as well as for other brands such as PRS, Manson Guitar Works, and Relish. The main instruments the company produces are electric, acoustic, and classic guitars, along with basses and ukuleles.

The company was founded back in 1960 with the name Soo Doh Piano which imported pianos to the country. Later in 1973, the focus changed from importing pianos to manufacturing and selling guitars. The first Cort branded guitars were released in 1982. In 1984 the company introduced their headless guitars with designs exclusively licensed from Ned Steinberger, which attracted attention in the mainstream market and gave Cort fame in the guitar world.

From that day, Cort Musical Instruments grew larger, producing many guitars in their factories, mainly in Indonesia, Korea, and partly in China. The company produces some of the finest guitars and basses to musicians and music enthusiasts all around the world with different budgets. They also work with many guitarists with international recognition providing some professional-level instruments. In short, Cort is one of the biggest and most reliable players in the guitar market today.

Cort G300 Pro is a boutique-inspired Superstrat style guitar with modern enhancements and vintage looks. It is the flagship model of the G series of Cort and comes with the standard 6-string right-hand orientation. There are two color options you can choose from, including Black, Vivid Burgundy.

The guitar has a lovely weight, 7.38 lbs (3.35 kg), and feels highly balanced.

The classic S-style offset double-cutaway solid body is made of high-quality American Basswood. There is the 6 mm maple flat top, and the back material is American Basswood again. The body is finished with gloss which looks excellent.

The bolt-on neck is made of roasted maple with roasted maple fingerboard on top, which are other great features that add to the feel, look, and playability of the instrument. The scale length is 25.5” (48mm), and the fingerboard radius is 12-16” (305-406 mm). The position inlays are classic dots.

The super features do not end there as the 24 frets; the guitar features are the jumbo stainless steel frets which can last a lifetime. Again, the nut is high-quality as it is a 42.13mm (1.66”) sized Graph Tech Black Tusq nut.

Another user-friendly feature is the spoke-wheel truss rod adjustment located at the base of the neck. So, you do not have to have a wrench trying to turn the screws to adjust the truss rod.

The guitar features a HH pickup configuration with a Seymour Duncan SH2N on the neck and Seymour Duncan TB4 on the bridge position. These pickups are some of the most sold Seymour Duncan pickups that are well-known for their sonic versatility and high-quality sound.

The sonic versatility of the guitar is provided with the 5-way pickup lever switch, which also allows you to use the humbucker as single coils. There is also a volume and tone pot for tonal adjustments.

The bridge system is Cort CFA-III 2-post 6-saddle vibrato with push-in arm, and the tuners are Cort staggered-post rear locking tuners. Both are high-quality Cort hardware. They are finished with chrome and look elegant.

Cort G300 Pro is a tremendous superstrat guitar that looks vintage but performs modern with its unique features shown in the specs.

The Sound, The Feel Of The Cort G300 Pro

As I told you before, I have started playing guitar on a Cort guitar and moved on to other Cort models with time. Today one of my favorite guitars is the Cort G300 Pro that I play regularly. This guitar has amazing sonic versatility, comfort, and playability, in my opinion.

First of all, the guitar has a great weight, around 7.38 lbs (3.35 kg). It is not heavy or light; sitting just in the golden area to be balanced but not heavy gives you backache after playing for some hours.

The roasted maple neck and fingerboard feel amazing, smooth as butter, which highly elevates playability. The stainless steel frets are well-rounded without any sharp edges. The action of the guitar was regular out of the box but I managed to lower it significantly to my liking and it is one of the lowest I play today.

When it comes to the sound of the instrument, I have to appreciate the pickups. The Seymour Duncan SH2N and TB4 pickups sound exceptional, which is the reason they are at the top 3 most-sold electric guitar pickups on Thomann. Currently, they sit in the second position and are in the first position not so long ago.

The guitar’s sound covers all the frequencies well with a big thumping midrange bark, crispy highs, and well-rounded low-frequencies. The pickups are really versatile and can even provide single-coil clarity.

The sonic versatility is provided with the 5-way switch, which lets you use the humbuckers as single-coil pickups. The custom wire switch is high-quality, and the single-coil switch positions sound really good.

It is without a doubt one of the best Strat-style guitars that can last for a long time. The top-quality features for the price offered are amazing. That is why it is called a boutique-style guitar for a reasonable price. The guitar has many similarities to Suhr models; some reviews on the internet even call this model poor man’s Suhr.

Cort G300 Pro Is Perfect For Whom?

Cort G300 Pro is a great guitar for any player, whether a beginner or an experienced player. The comfort, playability, sound quality, and versatility of the guitar make it an ideal choice for any kind of musician.

It is a modern style guitar, called super-strat, so the sound and the feel you get is kind of modern. The guitar spans pretty much every rock genre there is, along with modern metal or pop-soul sounds in its range.

I would not recommend the guitar only to guitarists who are after specific style vintage sound as this is a modern-sounding guitar. Besides, any genre can be played with the guitar.

The comfortable D-shaped old Fender-style neck is very comfortable to learn for beginners and shred, solo, or do whatever for experienced players. The action is pretty low and can be adjusted to an even lower degree which makes it ideal for learning as well as speed, comfortable playing.

Especially if you are doing a lot of bends and vibratos like me and grind the frets too quickly, this guitar is an excellent choice with its stainless steel fret design. The 24 fret modern design is also great to get you covered for playing any tune you like.

Cort G100 is the entry-level electric guitar of the series with Meranti Strat-style double cutaway solid body, hard maple neck, jatoba fretboard with 22 frets, three single-coil power sound pickups. It is an excellent guitar for beginner guitarists, as it is comfortable, affordable, and decent-sounding.

G280 Cort Select G Series Guitar

Another great member of the G series is the Cort G280 Select model with a Strat-style double cutaway solid body made from Alder with a flame maple top. It features a Canadian hard maple neck, Rosewood fingerboard with 22 frets, HSS pickup configuration with Cort VTS-63 and VTH 77 pickups, and Cort Cort CFA-III Tremolo bridge.

G290 Fat Cort Select G Series Guitar 

Cort G290 Fat Select comes with flame maple top with swamp ash strat-style double cutaway solid body, birdseye maple neck, and fingerboard with 22 frets, Voiced Tone VTH-77 Set pickups in the HH pickup configuration, and the Custom-Wired Five-Way Switch, which allows you to use the humbucker also as single coils. There is also the Cort CFA-III Tremolo bridge.

 It is a truly versatile and high-performing guitar as it is the second-highest priced guitar in the G series after the G300 Pro.

Is It Possible To Upgrade Cort G300 Pro?

As with most guitars, you can upgrade Cort G300 Pro, but I do not see why you would need to. The specs and the features of this guitar are remarkable and do not need any substantial update. But, as with any guitar you purchase, the strings need to be changed immediately as the strings that come with the new guitars are often old.

Strings

Cort G300 Pro comes with D’Addario EXL120 strings which are not bad at all. However, they are most probably old strings that need to be changed. For better tuning stability and an extended lifetime, I recommend you to change them with Elixir strings of your choice.

Alternatives To The Instrument In Terms Of Look, Feel, Sound, Specs, And Price

Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HH 2PT

Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 is the Superstrat style model of the brand. It is one of the most used Superstrat style guitars that is inspired by Jackson shredders.

The guitar features a double-cutaway solid Alder body along with a caramelized maple neck that feels quite good. On top, there is the caramelized maple fingerboard with 24 jumbo frets.

The pickup configuration is HH, and the pickups are Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro APH-1N Humbucker at the neck and Seymour Duncan Custom Full Shred SH-10B Humbucker at the bridge. There is also the 5-way switch adding sonic versatility.

The bridge has Gotoh Tremolo, and the tuners are Die-cast locking tuners. Overall it is a great guitar that costs slightly more than G300 Pro.

Ibanez Premium AZ42P1

Another great Superstrat choice is Ibanez Premium AZ42P1 which comes with a basswood body, roasted maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, and HH pickup configuration. The guitar combines classic aesthetics with excellent playability and decent sound.

The guitar’s top feature is the roasted maple neck which feels relatively smooth. There are 24 stainless steel jumbo frets on the rosewood fingerboard.

The pickups are both Seymour Duncan Hyperion Humbuckers which look vintage and perform really well for chunky power chords, slow-hand-inspired leads, or virtuosic soloing. The 5-way toggle switch adds to the sonic versatility, making the guitar a Swiss-army knife type of guitar for different uses.

This guitar’s cost is slightly higher than the Cort G300 Pro.

Jackson Pro Series Soloist SL2FM MAH

When it comes to the Superstrat style guitars, one of the first brands to come to mind is Jackson. The brand is well-known for its shredder-style superstrats with modern features, and the Jackson Pro Series Soloist SL2FM MAH is one of those with an excellent value for price ratio.

The guitar features a double-cutaway solid mahogany body with a flamed maple top and a gloss finish. It has a speed neck with a neck-through neck joint with an ebony fingerboard which is perfect for fast playing.

It comes with a Floyd Rose 1000 Series bridge and a HH pickup configuration. The pickups are Seymour Duncan Distortion TB-6 and SH-6N Humbuckers, which are great for aggressive, fast-playing, and heavier tones.

This guitar is not as versatile or feature-packed as Cort G300 Pro, but if you are after some shredding, it is a better choice with its comfortable speed neck and heavier tones. It costs almost the same as the Cort G300 Pro.

Conclusion

In short, Cort G300 Pro is one of my favorite guitars that has incredible playability, high sonic versatility, and premium quality features. For the price offered, the design and specs are excellent with the stainless steel frets, graph tech nut, roasted maple neck, some of the most sold and highest quality Seymour Duncan humbuckers, custom wired 5-way toggle switch, and more.

If you want an all-around guitar with a comfortable neck smooth as butter, vintage looks but modern enhancements, this is an ideal choice. Cort G 300 Pro is an exceptional guitar that has great value for the offered price. I totally recommended it, a 5 out of 5, in my opinion.
